More knowledge about Mindset could make a huge difference in approaching and working with an athlete, a trainer or coach or even an entire organization. A mindset can have only two conditions, it's fixed or open for growth, and people tend to be primarily in one or the other. Now this is an interesting fact because knowing this will explain in many situations why things work or don't work.
At times having a fixed mindset sounds very useful as it seems to bring peace in our mind. We will continue doing the things the way we always did. How convenient, but is it really?
'Fixed Mindsets' are most likely avoiding challenges, giving up when there are obstacles, when things are going get though we'll choose the easy way, critics therefor will be always unfair and mistimes the success of others will get reduced.
People with a fixed mindset are very likely closed minded, handle in patterns and will most likely feel to much tension when confronted with changing environments.
Ow, to negative for you. Glad that it's possible to make a switch. I would love to use the quote that a parachute only works when it's open, just like our mind.
From a different point of view, you really don't need a parachute all the time and there are jobs and things at home where a different mindset is not really of any use.
Does this imply that we could change our mindset. Yes we can. Some are doing this all the time, depending on where they are working on they switch their mindset. Others will prefer to remain in a fixed mindset or will stay in a grown-mindset mostly. We could almost compare this with a switch-button, on or of. In a matter of fact, there are no other conditions. Only fixed or growth.
A remarkable thin is that even someone might have a fixed mindset is that they will change their mindset as soon as they get into another environment. once getting into a situation where passion is leading them their mindset immediately changes into a growing set and what that change their mind as well.
You will find out when you focus on other people in what state of mind they are. Fixed-mindset or growth-mindset can be recognized by the way they reply. This is opening new doors, possibilities, challenges and chances.
Can you imagine what happens if you have a coach, trainer, manager or CEO who sticks by the book. Is he programming software or is he working with people on their growing proces and approaching together the goals they made?
In a growing-mindset challenges will most likely lead to grow, obstacles are there to be taken, extra efforts will get an extra injection, criticism is considered a lesson and success will only have it's origine by an entire team working together.
This is why it's so important to integrate newbies in a growing environment as they might get lost for your organization. Later on, it will be hard to change their enthusiasm into growth. It might be one of the very reasons why there are so many fixed mindsets in organizations lead by fixed mindsets. Just do what we asked for, not more. Don't improve, don't come with new ideas, don't grow, just ignore creativity.
Instead, inspire creativity, inspire alternatives, try, make mistakes, allow errors, work on being unique as growth always leads to progression due time. Make sure that there is a balance in your team, big or small.
